Best VR headset to buy in November 2026: Quest 3S, Quest 3, Steam Frame or PS VR2
Four picks for four kinds of players, what each one needs around it, and the premium headset to skip unless money is no object.

The best VR headset for most people in November 2026 is the Meta Quest 3S. It's the cheapest way into standalone virtual reality, meaning a headset with its own processor and battery that needs no PC or console, and it runs every game Meta's pricier Quest 3 does.
| Headset | US price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Quest 3S (128GB) | $349.99 | A first headset, fitness and party games |
| Meta Quest 3 (512GB) | $599.99 | Sharper image and long sessions |
| Steam Frame (256GB) | $1,059 | Players with a Steam library |
| PS VR2 | $399.99 | PS5 owners |
| Apple Vision Pro (M5) | $3,699 | Movies and work, if budget isn't a concern |
Quest 3S or Quest 3
Both headsets use the same chip and play the same library, so the $250 gap buys image quality and storage, not games. The Quest 3 has pancake lenses, thin optics that stay sharp across the whole view instead of only in the center, a higher-resolution display and 512GB of storage against 128GB. The Quest 3S with 256GB costs $449.99.
Meta raised both on April 19, 2026, blaming memory chip prices, and it hasn't announced a Quest 4. Its next VR device is Meta VR Glasses, due in spring 2027 at $1,299.99 and aimed at movies and work rather than games, so waiting buys nothing this holiday season. We compare the two current Quests in detail in Quest 3 or 3S: which one to buy.
Steam Frame for PC players, PS VR2 for PS5 owners
Steam Frame is Valve's wireless headset, on sale since September 14, 2026, with a 1TB version at $1,299 and controllers, a wireless adapter and Half-Life: Alyx in the box. It runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 16GB of memory, has a 2160 x 2160 LCD panel per eye at up to 144Hz and weighs 440 grams with the strap. The catch is availability: Valve sells it through a reservation queue, and some holders won't get their order email until 2027. It plays lighter games on its own and streams the heavy ones from a gaming PC or a Steam Machine over its wireless adapter, so it suits players whose library already lives on Steam. Our Steam Frame price guide explains how the queue works.

PS VR2's list price comes from a permanent cut Sony made in March 2025, and it's the only way to play VR on a PS5. With Sony's PC adapter it also runs SteamVR games on a Windows computer, so a PS VR2 bought for the console can double as a PC headset later. Just don't buy it for Rockstar's next game: GTA 6 has no VR mode.
Apple Vision Pro with the M5 chip has the sharpest displays of the group, but on Apple's US store it costs more than six Quest 3s and offers a far smaller games library. It's a superb movie screen and a capable work device, not a gaming headset. Apple hasn't announced a Vision Pro 2.
Whichever you pick, start with short sessions and take breaks: comfort in VR builds up over the first weeks. We cover what eye doctors say about long sessions in is VR bad for your eyes.
