Kids' birthday parties in Asunción: party venues, ball pits and rentals

For kids up to about 8 or 10, a children's party venue (salón de eventos infantiles) is still the easiest choice. Several venues in Asunción sell all-in packages with games, decorations and food, and some count kids and accompanying adults separately. The upside is that you barely have to organize anything; the downside is a fixed time slot and a party that can feel a lot like last year's.

If you'd rather celebrate at home, in a condo's common area or at a rented property, you can rent party games that are delivered and set up on site: inflatables, slides and other games. In Luque and other cities in the metro area you can also rent a quinta by the day, a country house with a pool and a quincho (a covered barbecue area). It's a very Paraguayan option when the guest list includes the whole family.

Outdoor birthday parties in Asunción's parks

A simple party in a park can work well for young kids and families. Parque Guasu Metropolitano in Asunción covers about 125 hectares of green space and is run by MOPC, Paraguay's Ministry of Public Works and Communications. It has an inclusive playground and a free play library (ludoteca) for kids up to 10. In Luque, Parque Ñu Guasu, which is free to enter, adds walking and running tracks, a bike path, sports courts, playgrounds and a man-made lake.

These are public spaces, and both are going through a revitalization project led by MOPC, so some areas may change or be under construction. Before planning a party with decorations, a speaker or a food table, check with park management about what's allowed for groups. And don't rely on schedules you saw on social media: confirm them through MOPC's official channels before you send out invitations.

Teen birthday parties: bowling, laser tag, escape rooms and trampoline parks

Somewhere between 10 and 17, most kids lose interest in the kids' party venue and want an activity that gives them a story to tell. Asunción has bowling, laser tag (team battles with laser blasters in themed arenas), escape rooms and trampoline parks, and several of these offer special birthday bookings.

Each format works differently. In an escape room the group usually gets 60 minutes to solve clues and get out, and some themes are horror, so check the recommended age. Laser tag and trampolines are more physical and run in rounds or time slots, so ask how many people can play at once. Bowling is the most relaxed and the best at mixing ages.

A formula that works well at this age: pair the activity with a meal somewhere nearby instead of hunting for one place that does it all. And if the group is more creative than competitive, a cooking class with a chef (some even come to your home) can be the plan.

Adult birthdays: private room, karaoke or a quinta with a barbecue area

For adults, three formats rarely fail: a restaurant or bar with a private room or reserved area, karaoke (some places have private rooms separate from the main floor), or a quinta with a quincho for a long weekend asado. A quinta gives you freedom with food and music, but you're on the hook for transportation, drinks and cleanup.

At a restaurant, ask whether there's a minimum spend, whether they charge for bringing your own cake or drinks, and whether the room is truly private or just a section of the dining room. If you want something other than the usual dinner, group experiences like a cooking class or an escape room also work for adults and are a good icebreaker for friends who don't know each other.

If the party mixes adults and teens, keep in mind that Paraguay's Law 1642/2000 prohibits selling or giving alcoholic drinks to anyone under 20 in public places, which includes venues open to the general public. Talk it through with the venue ahead of time, especially if there's an open bar.

What exactly does the package include, and what costs extra? How many hours does it last, and what happens if you run over? Is there a minimum or maximum number of guests?

How much is the deposit, is it refundable, and how late can you reschedule? What happens if it rains, the power goes out or the venue can't deliver? Do they issue an official invoice (factura)?

Who supervises the kids, and how many staff members are there per group? Is there air conditioning, are restrooms close by, and is there a space for parents to wait? Get the answers in writing and comparing two or three options gets much easier.
