ROG Xbox Ally X20 price: $1,299, or $2,499 with ROG XREAL AR glasses
Where the extra money goes, what the AR glasses bundle adds and which Ally makes more sense for most players.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 went on sale on October 15, 2026, for $1,299 on its own, or $2,499 in a bundle with ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses. Pre-orders had opened on August 25, 2026. The X20 is a special edition for the 20th anniversary of Republic of Gamers, the gaming brand ASUS formed in 2006.
The money goes into the screen and the controls. The X20 has a 7.4-inch OLED display with up to 1,400 nits of brightness in HDR, replacing the 7-inch IPS-level panel of the Ally X, and TMR joysticks with RGB light rings. TMR stands for tunnel magnetoresistance, a magnetic sensor that resists the stick drift that wears out older joysticks. ASUS also added a faster microSD Express card reader, DisplayPort 2.1 output over USB4 and a translucent black shell with gold inside.
The chip stays the same. The X20 keeps the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme with 8 cores and 16 threads, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB SSD and an 80Wh battery. It's also heavier, at 756 grams against 715 grams for the Ally X.
The $2,499 bundle adds the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, a protective case, a 68W charger and a hard travel case. ASUS says the glasses show a 171-inch virtual screen at four meters on a 240Hz micro-OLED display, with a 57-degree field of view and a single USB-C cable to the handheld. The glasses are also sold on their own.
ASUS keeps the ROG Xbox Ally at $599 and the Ally X at $999, so the X20 charges a $300 premium for a better screen and sticks, not more speed. The Ally X remains the better buy for most players; the X20 makes sense if you play in bright rooms, care about stick drift or want the anniversary design. Valve's Steam Deck OLED, the other big handheld, costs $789 with 512GB.
